Last night, on May 8, 2026, officers arrested 22 people between the ages of 12 and 21, as part of a teen takeover.

The large group of teens attempted a takeover in the area of Curtis Hixon Park, causing significant disruptions, fights, and other issues in the park and surrounding areas.

“This type of reckless and criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our city,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “What began as a large gathering quickly escalated into disorder and activity that placed others at risk. Parents need to know where their children are and who they are with...we will continue taking strong enforcement action against anyone who threatens the peace and safety of our community."

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Kentucky State Trooper Kenneth Dale Duff.

Kenneth Dale Duff, 63, of Jackson, Kentucky, departed this earthly life Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

Born on July 16, 1962, in Hazard, Ken spent his life deeply rooted in the community he loved.

Ken dedicated his career to public service as a Kentucky State Trooper. His commitment to protecting and serving others was a hallmark of his life and a source of pride for those who knew him.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ken was known for his passion for sports.  He enjoyed coaching and spectating, sharing his enthusiasm with others. He was an avid supporter of the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals and the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Rest Easy Brother. Prayers for his family of blue and blood. 🙏🏻
