I was honored to be invited as the keynote speaker at the California Peace Officers’ Enrollment Ceremony a solemn tribute to those who gave everything in service to others.

Today, we recognize the true meaning of this profession. Law enforcement is more than a job it is a calling defined by courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to protect our communities, no matter the cost.

As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said,

“There are some things so dear, some things so precious, some things so eternally true, that they are worth dying for and I submit to you that if a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”

This year, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department honors 3 of the 13 fallen officers whose names will now be forever etched on the Memorial Wall in Sacramento. Their legacy will live on in the hearts of those who continue to serve and in the communities they so selflessly protected.

Behind every badge is a family who shares in the sacrifice. The long hours, the missed holidays, and the constant worry. This job doesn’t just affect the deputy, it impacts everyone who stands beside them.

Today, we also recognize the strength of the spouses, children, and families who stand beside them through it all.

We will never forget their service. We will never forget their sacrifice.

Down in Kissimmee, Florida, a dog was spotted lying on the side of the road. It had been hit by a car. Osceola County deputy Josh Fiorelli was passing by when he saw the injured animal. The female dog was alive but was hurt enough that it couldn't move. Josh was heartbroken that such a thing happened. So he called for help then sat down beside the white dog and started petting it. Some dogs might get defensive when they're hurt, but not this one. It seemed to welcome the officer being there for it. Josh then put his jacket over the dog to keep it warm, as the day was chilly and the dog was wet. Says Josh: “She didn't have anyone there, so I decided to be that person.” The dog was soon treated for a dislocated leg. Carlos Irizzary was walking his own dog when he came across Josh helping the injured dog, so he snapped a photo of it, and posted it online. It went viral, and it was shared by several news outlets throughout the country. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office also posted the photo on its website, saying: “...Thank you Deputy Fiorelli for serving with care and compassion.”

Mississippi: An officer with the Pearl Police Department is recovering from injuries he sustained while responding to a call for service.

Police Chief Nick
McLendon said the officer was “seriously injured” in a crash on Highway 80 near Bierdeman Road on Monday night. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

McLendon added that the unidentified officer suffered multiple injuries, though he did not specify the nature of them. The officer was released from the hospital later Monday night in stable condition.

“He’s banged up but doing okay. We are incredibly thankful for all the continued prayers and support. The Good Lord was definitely watching over him,” McLendon said.

"This is not an offensive operation. This is a defensive operation, and what that means is very simple: there’s no shooting unless we're shot at first. We’re not attacking them, but if they're attacking us or they’re attacking a ship, you need to respond to that."

"There is NO 'international law' that allows you to say, 'I'm going to put mines in an international body of water and I'm going to blow up ships that don't listen to us...' That's what Iran is doing."

SecRubio on Iran: "They really shouldn’t test the will of the United States, at least not under President Donald Trump. He has proven, time and again, that he will back up what he says — and if they test him, ultimately, they will lose."

Operation Economic Fury "continues to impose maximum pressure on the Iranian regime and what remains of their already frail economy," says SecRubio.

"Every day the conflict continues... our leverage on Iran will continue to increase, and their position will continue to weaken."

SecRubio: "I cannot understand why anyone would think it's a good idea for Iran to ever have a nuclear weapon. Look what they're doing with the Straits right now. They have these sailors on commercial ships that are going to starve to death out there — they don't care... what do you think they would do if they had a nuclear weapon?"

SecRubio: "The problem with Israel and Lebanon is not Israel or Lebanon — it's Hezbollah. Hezbollah operates from inside of Lebanese territory; they terrorize and attack Israelis, but they also are inflicting tremendous damage on the Lebanese people."

SecRubio on the Iranian people: "[POTUS] is heartbroken by these images... This is a vicious regime, guys. These are people that hang people from cranes in the town square so everyone can see."

SecRubio: "If Iran had a nuclear weapon, and they decided to close the Straits... we wouldn't be able to do anything about it... A nuclear-armed Iran could do whatever the hell they want with the Straits, and there's nothing anyone would be able to do about it."

SecRubio: "If we live in a world where a rogue state like this Iranian regime is allowed to claim, as a new normal, control over an international shipping lane, it will not be long before you see that happen in multiple shipping lanes around the world."

SecRubio on the Iranian people: "I don't know of any country in the world where there's a bigger difference between the people and the people who run the country."

SecRubio: "Our history's not one of perfection, but it's still better than anybody else's history — and ours is a story of perpetual improvement. Each generation has left the next generation of Americans freer, more prosperous, safer, and that is our goal as well." 🇺🇸

SecRubio on Iran: "They don't care that their people are suffering. There's a difference between, 'We can withstand pressure,' and 'We actually don't care.' Now, I think there are people in their system that care more than others."

SecRubio: "Operation Epic Fury is concluded. We achieved the objectives of that operation. We're not cheering for an additional situation to occur. We would prefer the path of peace. What POTUS would prefer is a deal... that is, so far, not the route that Iran has chosen."

BREAKING: Former FedEx driver Tanner Horner, who pleaded guilty to capital murder and aggravated kidnapping in the death of 7-year-old Athena Strand, has been sentenced to death.

A Tarrant County jury sentenced Tanner Horner to death for the 2022 kidnapping and murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand. Horner pleaded guilty before trial and was found eligible for the death penalty after an emotional sentencing phase. Prosecutors argued for execution, while the defense pushed for life in prison. The jury returned a death verdict after two hours of deliberation. Horner allegedly struck Strand with his delivery truck, panicked, and killed her to avoid consequences. Her body was found two days later, 9 miles from her home.
