NEW: A Los Angeles police officer and two young children were injured in a crash early Sunday morning in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw area, authorities confirmed.

The collision was reported around 3:23 a.m. near Crenshaw Boulevard and Obama Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officials say the crash involved an LAPD patrol vehicle. One person was arrested at the scene on suspicion of felony DUI, police said.

Two children, a 2-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, were transported to a hospital in fair condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. An LAPD officer was also taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Police Officer John Bartholomew was shot and killed by a robbery suspect at Chicago’s Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital at approximately 10:50 a.m.

Around 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning, Officer Bartholomew and another officer transported a suspect accused of robbing a Family Dollar store to the Swedish hospital for observation. Nearly two hours later, the suspect obtained a gun and fired, striking both officers. The officers were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where Officer Bartholomew was pronounced later that afternoon; the second officer suffered severe injuries.

The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended shortly afterward and is in custody.

Officer Bartholomew had served with the Chicago Police Department for 10 years, assigned to the Albany Park (17th) District.

This is Runaway Bay from News chopper this morning after severe storms tore through the area.

Officials say 1 person died, several others were injured, and multiple neighborhoods suffered major structural damage.

Wise County Judge J.D. Clark on Sunday issued a disaster declaration in the wake of an EF-2 tornado that killed one person, injured several more and damaged or destroyed more than two dozen homes in Runaway Bay.

In addition to the local declaration, Clark said he is requesting that Gov. Greg Abbott issue a similar declaration as well.
