The New York Police Department sadly announced the passing of retired Auxiliary Assistant Chief Dolores Roque.

Chief Roque dedicated more than 50 years of service to the NYPD, leaving an enduring legacy of commitment, leadership, and trailblazing achievement. Throughout her career in Manhattan North, she rose through the ranks with distinction, serving in a variety of roles and earning the respect of all who had the privilege to work alongside her.

In October 2024, she made history as the first living member of the Auxiliary Police program to be promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief by then-Police Commissioner Thomas Donlon—a testament to her unwavering dedication and pioneering spirit.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to a small plane crash in the parking lot of an O’Reilly Auto Parts in Pacoima Monday morning.
The Cessna 172 plane nose-dived into the parking lot off Van Nuys Boulevard just after 11 a.m., according to Sky5’s Rich Prickett, who was over the scene at 11:30 a.m.
The pilot, reportedly a 70-year-old man, was extricated from the plane and transported to the hospital.
At this time, the extent of the pilot’s injuries remains unknown. 📷boomblastic1

The Charleston Police Department, West Virginia, sadly announced the untimely passing of Patrolman Joshua Butts on the morning of April 17, 2026.

Ptlm. Butts suffered a medical emergency at his home early Friday. Despite the dedicated efforts of first responders and the staff at CAMC, he passed away.

Patrolman Butts served our community with honor, and his loss is deeply felt across our department and beyond.

Praying for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy who was shot in the line of duty this afternoon🙏🏻

South Carolina: A suspect is dead and a deputy is facing life-threatening injuries after a traffic stop on Interstate 85 in South Carolina on Monday, April 20, according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, deputies initiated a traffic stop on a Dodge Challenger and were interviewing the driver. A deputy requested additional assistance, so a second deputy arrived on the scene shortly after.

During the traffic stop, the suspect got a firearm from the vehicle and fired at least one shot, hitting the second deputy, the sheriff's office said. The deputy who initiated the stop fired back.

The sheriff's office said the deputy who was shot was "immediately" airlifted to Greenville Memorial.
The Anderson County Coroner confirmed that the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the press release.

A massive dark patch lurking within a giant Martian crater has been creeping across the Red Planet's surface since the feature was first spotted 50 years ago, new photos reveal — and scientists are unsure exactly why this is happening.

The shadowy structure is a patch of ground covered with ash and volcanic rocks, such as olivine and pyroxene, from ancient eruptions that occurred millions of years ago, before Mars was considered geologically dead. It is located in Utopia Planitia, a roughly 2,000-mile-wide (3,300 kilometers) plain in Mars' northern hemisphere.

NASA's Viking probes first photographed the blackened ground in 1976, shortly after arriving at the Red Planet. Since then, several photos have shown that this feature is expanding across the surrounding landscape.
