China showed off its military power and economic prowess during a parade to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the modern nation on Tuesday. The display was presided over by Xi Jinping, wearing a grey jacket in echoes of Mao Zedong. Standing in an open-topped car, he watched the parade from the Gate of Heavenly Peace, from where Mao proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. Included in the display was a new intercontinental ballistic missile capable of hitting anywhere in America within 30 minutes, a hypersonic nuclear missile that is theoretically capable of evading all known missile defence systems, along with new stealth drones and aircraft. 'No force can ever shake the status of China, or stop the Chinese people and nation from marching forward,' Xi said as he inspected rows of vehicles, troops and gleaming missiles.
A towering arch bridge dramatically collapsed in Taiwan this morning, sending a tanker truck crashing onto fishing vessels and sparking a search for possible victims in the water. The 450ft-long bridge gave way in the Pacific fishing village of Nanfangao in eastern Taiwan, bringing its 60ft arch down with it. At least 14 people have been injured, and an air force helicopter, fishing vessels and more than 60 military personnel including divers were today searching for people who may be trapped under the rubble. The collapse came hours after a typhoon swept across parts of the island but officials would not speculate this morning on whether the storm had weakened the bridge.

Experimental German radar 'tracked two U.S. F-35 stealth jet for 100 MILES' after lying in wait on a pony farm to catch them flying home from airshow. The F-35 stealth fighter is lauded by the U.S Air Force as almost invisible to radar - which is why it has spent $100million on each of the jets. However, a German radar maker claims to have tracked two of jets from a pony farm for nearly 100 miles using an emerging generation of sensors and processors. It used a new 'passive radar' system that analyzes how civilian communications - such as radio and TV broadcasts and mobile phone stations - bounce off airborne objects. The new radar has no emitters so pilots do not realize they are entering a monitored area - but it relies on there being civilian communication waves. 😳
