Thousends of Parisians have lined up to pay their last respects to former French President Jacques Chirac after a funeral convoy escorted his body through the city this afternoon. Police officers saluted the convoy today as Chirac's daughter Claude, was pictured leaving her home in the funeral car. The body of the 86-year-old has been brought to lie in state at the Invalides memorial, with many lining up through the streets of Paris in order to sign a book of condolence. His death on Thursday prompted a flood of tributes for the politician who will be remembered by many as a charismatic giant of domestic and international politics despite a mixed legacy. #RIP

Austrian conservative leader Sebastian Kurz's party has emerged as the clear winner of Sunday's snap parliamentary election. His Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) scored slightly higher than expected -0 raking in 38.4 percent of the vote against the SPO (Social Democrats) on 21.5 percent. The ex-chancellor will now return to the forefront of politics just four months after he was ousted - and he has some tough choices to make going forward. Now the politician must assess several options for a coalition partner that will give it a stable majority.

High and dry: 'Drug smugglers' are rescued after using 'packages of COCAINE' to stay afloat when their boat sank off of Colombia. Suspected drug traffickers had to be rescued from the ocean while floating on packets containing 1.2 tonnes of cocaine after their boat sank off the coast of Colombia. A Colombian navy vessel spotted the desperate men clinging to packages in the Pacific Ocean, 30 nautical miles off the coast of Tumaco.
