Hong Kong police fired tear gas and water cannon on Saturday to disperse anti-government protesters who threw rocks, broke government office windows and blocked a key road near the local headquarters of China's People's Liberation Army. A series of protests for and against the city's Communist Party rulers in Beijing is planned ahead of the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic on Tuesday, including at the consulate of former colonial power Britain. The protesters, many dressed all in black and wearing masks, took cover under umbrellas from the water cannon and fled after the demonstrations had taken a familiar turn into clashes with police as they have done regularly over more than three months. Police fired blue water, used in other countries to help identify offenders. #HK

The Salinas Police Department in California reported that Mariel Capulong, 22, took a 43-year-old person hostage in their lobby on Wednesday but they were able to de-escalate the situation in as little as a minute and 10 seconds using clever tactics. But at one point Capulong appears to wail after a cop verbally deescalates the situation then quickly uses the stun gun on her, causing the assailant to momentarily release the victim and giving law enforcement the opportunity to rush in. 🔫👮🏻♂️ #taser
Violent clashes between pro-democratic Hong Kong supporters and riot police have continued today, as part of a coordinated day of global protests aimed at casting a shadow over communist China's upcoming 70th birthday. Protesters have been hit with tear gas, rubber bullets and blue dye water cannon at several hot spots in the downtown area as riot police attempt to regain control of the chaotic scenes. The thousands-strong movement targeted central government offices with petrol bombs and rocks last night, and regrouped today to march along a thoroughfare near the Causeway Bay shopping centre. The second straight day of defiance has sparked fears of more violence ahead of China's National Day, the anniversary of its founding 70 years ago, on Tuesday. They were also blasted by water cannons, which is believed to contain an irritant blue dye to stain the protestors' clothes. Armed people were found among the protesters. 👮🏻♂️😱 #HK
