As police officers, you never know what the next call or the next moment will bring. For several members of the SCPD, that moment meant running toward a burning vehicle to save a life.
On November 24, Highway Patrol Officers Craig Capobianco and Robert Rosciano, Canine Officers Michael Renna and Robert Stroehlein, and Sixth Precinct Officer Joseph Nofi rescued 19-year-old Patchogue resident Kervens Lesperance after a serious crash on Nicolls Road. Lesperanceβs Jeep struck an overpass, overturned, and caught fire while he was unconscious and pinned inside.
Working together, the officers extinguished the flames and pulled him from the vehicle, saving his life.
We are proud of the courage, teamwork, and professionalism demonstrated by these officers. Their actions reflect the dedication our members bring to the job every single day.
