Congratulations to Class 487!

On Thursday, March 5, 2026, 70 dedicated men and women sat as recruits and rose as Peace Officers after completing a rigorous 22-week training academy.

Class 487’s graduation marked the first time in the history of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Training Academy that a Special Olympics Athlete served alongside a graduating class as an Honorary Recruit. Michael Leon became part of the class and embraced the training fully.

Sheriff Luna addressed Class 487 stating, “I am proud of you. You did not treat Michael as a guest, but you treated him as a  partner. Michael, you did not just participate in this academy, you helped shape it.”

This diverse group of graduates exemplify the rich culture of the LA County community they will now serve as deputies and officers.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: A shooting left four men injured Thursday night in Apopka, Florida, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

On arrival, deputies found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported both individuals to a local hospital for treatment, the sheriff’s office said. While deputies were investigating the scene, they learned about two additional shooting victims.

An OCSO spokesperson said those two men took themselves to a nearby hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The sheriff’s office said the victims involved in the shooting are between the ages of 21 and 48.
Investigators have not said if they have made any arrests or have any suspects in the case.

53 House Dems vote against declaring Iran a state sponsor of terror.

The resolution, put forward by Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., passed by a 372-53 vote on Thursday, with all those voting no being Democrats. Two Democrats also voted present. 
Among those who voted against the measure were all the members of the "Squad," such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.

NEW: ICE San Diego arrested Jashanpreet Singh, a criminal alien from India. Singh’s criminal history includes threatening a crime with intent to terrorize, assault with a deadly weapon, and DUI. He will remain in custody pending removal proceedings.

OPERATION DEAD HORSE: Yesterday, USAO Los Angeles announced the arrests of 12 members and associates of the 18th Street Gang  – L.A.’s largest street gang – on charges alleging murder, extortion, and drug trafficking tied to the MacArthur Park Area.

“For far too long, 18th Street and other criminals have been allowed to turn one of the city’s most beautiful public spaces into a crime-infested pit. That ends today,” said US Attorney Bill Essayli. “We are committed to eliminating violent organized crime and open-air drug markets from Los Angeles.”
