Arizona: A Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputy was hospitalized after a stolen ATV driver crashed into their patrol car in Youngtown, near Surprise.

The deputy tried to stop the driver around 3 a.m. March 3, but they fled the scene, striking the front end of the patrol car in the process, spokesperson Dave Moyer said.

The vehicle was undrivable, and the deputy was taken to the hospital to be evaluated before being released, according to Moyer. Please join us in sending prayers and, or positive thoughts for a full recoveryπŸ™πŸ»

"The ATV was later found, but the suspect is outstanding," Moyer said.

Today marks 35 years since the beating of Rodney King in Lake View Terrace, California.

An amateur video captures the beating of Rodney King by four Los Angeles Police Department officers.

King is pulled over after a high speed chase on Interstate 210. Officers attempt to arrest him after it is determined he is intoxicated. When King resists, the officers begin using force to suppress him. As King continues to resist, the force becomes greater and the officers begin beating him with their batons.

The video of the beating, shot by area resident George Holliday, is picked up by the national news media. Four Los Angeles Police Officers are charged with using excessive force; on April 29, three are acquitted while the jury cannot reach a verdict on the fourth.

Hours after the verdict is announced, riots lasting six days ensue across Los Angeles and surrounding communities. They result in sixty-three deaths, over 2,300 more injured and millions of dollars in damages to local businesses. Only after the California Army National Guard, the United States Army, and the United States Marine Corps are brought in to assist local law enforcement are the riots suppressed.

Our troopers and officers are happily partaking in Read Across America Week, which celebrates literacy and encourages young minds to discover the joy of reading.

At Fallsburg Elementary School, Trooper Tyler Belcher and Trooper Zachary Wright from Post 14 Ashland spent time with students sharing stories and smiles.

Trooper Jonathan Moore visited Waco Elementary School, where he read The Cat in the Hat to all first-grade classes in Ms. Adkins’, Ms. Crider’s, and Mrs. Coleman’s classrooms.

We are proud to support literacy in our communities and to help inspire the next generation of readers and leaders. Be sure to follow us to see which schools our troopers and officers visit next! πŸ“š
