ICYMI: One person is dead and two others were wounded during a shooting Sunday in Downtown Long Beach near the grand opening celebration for Marathon Burger on Pine Avenue.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported three victims from a nearby parking garage to a local hospital, one in critical and two in stable condition, according to a department spokesperson.

One of the victims later died at the hospital, according to the LBPD.

"Founded by Samiel “Blacc Sam” Asghedom, brother of the late rapper and activist Nipsey Hussle, Marathon Burger’s Long Beach restaurant is the company’s fourth location, joining West Hollywood, Venice and Canoga Park. The Long Beach opening drew hundreds to Pine Avenue, including rappers Snoop Dogg and YG.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Mayor Rex Richardson, the celebration continued. With people anxiously waiting for their chance to try the burgers, shots rang out, with video footage from the scene showing onlookers fleeing."

Even at 1,200 sworn officers, this still puts New Orleans on the low end of comparable cities' officers/1,000 residents ratio. With 19 million visitors annually, our city's average daily number of residents can be about 50,000 more than the actual 350,000 population.

What's not in the math? Trauma.

Canada: A local Mountie was hospitalized following a motor vehicle collision on Highway 2 just south of Innisfail.

At about 11:30 p.m. on Feb.26 Innisfail RCMP Traffic services investigated a crash on Highway 2 just south of Innisfail, said RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff in a media release issued Friday.

Savinkoff said the RCMP member who was investigating the collision had returned to his police vehicle to complete paperwork.

“While seated in the police vehicle, a white Ford Explorer collided with the stationary police vehicle which caused significant damage,” said Savinkoff. “The female driver of the Explorer was believed to be impaired by alcohol and she was arrested by police.”

Savinkoff said the driver provided breath samples to police where she was found to have nearly double the legal limit of alcohol.

He said the injured RCMP member was taken to hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries but remains hospitalized for testing and treatment.

U.S. gas prices expected to rise after Iran attack.

The Unites States will take action to mitigate rising energy prices due to a spike in the price of oil caused by the Iran conflict, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters at Capitol Hill, Rubio said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Energy Secretary Chris Wright would announce the plans on Tuesday.

"Starting tomorrow, you will see us rolling out those phases to try to mitigate against that ... We anticipated this could be an issue," Rubio said.
