UPDATE: Shooting near Long Beach grand opening of Marathon Burger leaves 1 dead, 2 wounded.

The shooting happened about a block from the grand opening of Marathon Burger's Pine Avenue location, leaving one person dead and two others wounded. Police say that there is no indication the two events are connected.

New York: A Batavia Police Officer was injured while arresting a man in mid-February.

According to the Batavia Police Department, on Feb. 19, officers arrested 27-year-old Nicholas J. Cavallaro of Batavia. While inside a patrol car, Cavallaro is said to have “slammed” his head against the metal cage in the back and became combative when officers opened the door in an attempt to stop him.
During this incident, it is alleged that Cavallaro kicked an officer in the head. The officer was treated at UMMC and is said to have sustained a concussion.

Ohio: On February 28, 2026, at approximately 6:15 p.m., the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist another agency locate a semi-truck. The truck had recently fled from officers in another jurisdiction, injuring one of the officers in the process.
The truck was located a short time later on East Market Street in the city of Akron. Deputies along with officers from other jurisdictions attempted to make contact with the driver of the truck. The suspect fled westbound on East Market Street and struck multiple cruisers.
As the suspect neared the intersection of East Market Street and Innovation Way, the suspect driver struck another cruiser and occupied civilian vehicles. Subsequently, a sheriff’s deputy fired his duty weapon. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Garrett M. Temple, a respected Marine veteran and St. Louis County police officer, passed away on February 21, 2026, at age 45.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps since 1999, deploying to Afghanistan and Iraq, then continued with the Missouri National Guard. For years he worked in the Tactical Operations Unit and served on the St. Louis County Police Association Executive Board.

A colleague remembered him clearly: "1SG Temple was a outstanding leader an mentor to his Soldiers."

Garrett married Krista in 2007 and raised sons Brady and Blake, always putting family first. His steady leadership and quiet dedication left a lasting mark on those he served alongside and loved.

A Dallas Texas Police officer was injured in a hit-and-run crash early Monday that shut down part of Interstate 35E for several hours, authorities say.

"On March 2, 2026, at approximately 12:46 a.m., officers responded to an assist officer call in the 2900 block of North Stemmons Freeway northbound. The assist call was made after a motorcycle officer on duty was involved in a motor vehicle accident.

Preliminary information indicates the officer was struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle, causing him to be thrown from his motorcycle. A second vehicle then collided with the motorcycle after the officer had been thrown from his motorcycle.

Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the officer to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."
