Missouri: Three people were shot, and an officer was hurt inside a north Kansas City church during a funeral service for a homicide victim.

The Kansas City Missouri Police Department responded to New Beginning Apostolic Church at 11:15 a.m., 200 N. Bales Avenue in Kansas City.

Preliminary investigation shows bullets pierced through the sanctuary walls where a funeral was taking place.
“I find this absolutely unacceptable,” said KCPD officer Phil DiMartino.

The injured officer was reportedly hit by either a bullet, shrapnel, or glass and is expected to make a full recovery.

No officers returned fire, but KCPD said three officers were on the scene and off-duty while inside the service. It’s unclear whether there was just one suspect, or multiple suspects, but DiMartino said the shots are believed to have been fired by someone who was driving by the church on N. Bales Avenue.

A crash on the Capital Beltway left a Maryland State Police trooper injured during rush hour on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

State police told DC News Now that a Ford Escape rear-ended the trooper as traffic began to slow on the inner loop of Interstate 495.

The trooper was conducting roving patrol on the inner loop of I-495 in lane 3, near Route 450, at the time of the collision, officials noted.

State police said medics transported the trooper by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

DISCRIMINATION SUIT: Five White Philadelphia police officers sue the city, claiming they were denied promotions in November because of their race and sex due to the city's "Rule of Five'" policy.

The plaintiffs include Lieutenants Christopher Bloom, Kollin Berg and Joseph Musumeci, as well as Sergeants Marc Monachello and LeRoy Ziegler Jr., all of whom are White males. The class-action lawsuit alleges that in November 2025, the five officers were denied promotions because of their race and sex due to the city's "Rule of Five" policy.

"The City of Philadelphia has adopted a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) promotion policy that it calls the 'Rule of Five,' which was instituted for the express purpose of increasing the representation of minority and female candidates in supervisory positions within the City of Philadelphia at the expense of white men," the lawsuit reads.

NEW: A BSO deputy, and Coconut Creek police officer, were injured Thursday afternoon when a driver in a stolen truck rammed marked patrol units and fled onto Florida's Turnpike, authorities said.

Shortly after 4 p.m., deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office assisted Coconut Creek Police Department in investigating a stolen car reported out of Fort Lauderdale. 

During the investigation, the driver of the stolen truck struck a BSO unit and then hit a Coconut Creek police vehicle, authorities said. 

The driver then entered Florida's Turnpike heading south. 

Both the BSO deputy and the Coconut Creek officer whose vehicles were struck were taken to hospitals with injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening, according to BSO.

Ozark, Missouri: Two deputies injured in a gunfight near Reeds Spring earlier this week remain hospitalized as Christian County prepares to bury two other officers killed in the same incident.

Deputy Josh Wahl of the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Austin McCall of the Webster County Sheriff’s Office were both taken to the hospital with severe injuries following Tuesday morning’s gunfight.

Deputy McCall’s condition
Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole said he has visited Deputy McCall every day since the shooting. McCall suffered four gunshot wounds.

“He’s a very brave man. He’s also a goofball and quick-witted. But I think, more importantly, he’s the type of person who makes everybody around them feel better about themselves. And that’s the kind of people that we need around here, Sheriff Cole said. ”That’s the kind of people we need in the world. He’s non-critical by nature, but he’s also highly intelligent and has discernment."

Deputy Wahl’s condition
Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole said Deputy Wahl is doing well after being shot in the upper leg and has undergone surgery.

“He’s actually doing extremely well. He’s underwent a pretty major surgery, reconstruction, and he is kind of limited on his movement at this point in time,” Sheriff Brad Cole said.

Sheriff Brad Cole said Wahl has focused on others throughout his recovery.

“He has more concern for everybody else than he does for himself. And that’s just Josh,” he said.

Support from both departments
Both sheriffs said they will continue to support the injured deputies through recovery and beyond.

“There will be non-stop, continued support for him. We will make sure that he has what he needs for, hopefully, a full recovery,” Sheriff Brad Cole said.
