A message from Beech Grove Police Chief Michael Maurice:

"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that today we lost one of our very own, Officer Brian Elliott. Officer Elliott, along with two other Beech Grove Police Department officers, was dispatched at 6:08 p.m. to the 100 block of Diplomat Court for a disturbance.

After they arrived, Officer Elliott and another officer were shot. Both officers were rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, but despite the best lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, Officer Elliott succumbed to his injuries.

The other officer, who we are not naming at this time, is currently in stable condition and is expected to survive.

My heart goes out to Brian’s wife, Erin, his parents, and all of his family, friends, and loved ones. At this time, I am asking that we lean on one another to get through this.

We are grateful to the team at Eskenazi Hospital, and our law enforcement and community partners for their extraordinary response and support."

We’ve learned 33-year-old Beech Grove Police Officer Brian Elliott, one of the two officers shot while responding to a domestic disturbance this evening, has died from his injuries.

Officer Elliott  is a Beech Grove High School Graduate. He earned a Bachelors in Criminal Justice at IUPUI. Officer Elliott served with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for approximately four years prior to becoming a member of the Beech Grove Police Department. At the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Officer Elliott represented his department with esteem as Assistant Squad Leader,  Honor Graduate, and the Glenda Mercer Memorial Award winner for top academic achievement.

WATCH: Pawtucket officials are holding a press conference to update the public after a deadly shooting at Lynch Arena earlier today.

Police confirm the suspect who kiIIed his wife and kid at hockey game is a transgender man.

Suspect who opened fire at Pawtucket, Rhode Island ice rink has been identified as 56-year-old Robert Dorgan, who also goes by the name Roberta Esposito, police chief says.

The suspect shot four family members and a family friend at a hockey game Monday, killing two and injuring three others. The suspect was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Court records show Pawtucket shooter had a history of family disputes, some involving his gender identity.
