February marks the start of Black History Month! We begin by honoring Robert William Stewart β a true trailblazer and LAPDβs first African American police officer.
Appointed in 1889, Stewart was widely known as a well-respected officer within the community, according to historic articles and news accounts. Throughout his career, he was documented as a dedicated officer, and his legacy is cemented in LAPD history. Stewartβs career with LAPD ended in 1900, when he was falsely accused of a crime he did not commit.
In 2021, the Los Angeles Police Commission voted unanimously to recognize the injustice of his termination and posthumously reinstated Officer Stewart.
This month, and everyday, we thank Officer Stewart for his serviceπ

β οΈWhen thousands of people flood into a city for a major event, public safety and human trafficking prevention efforts intensify.
This weekend the Super Bowl heads to Levi's Stadium in San Francisco. While no definitive data shows trafficking spikes specifically because of the Super Bowl, large influxes of visitors can create opportunities for traffickers to exploit vulnerable individuals.
Large events like the Super Bowl bring excitement and celebration, but they also require collective vigilance to protect vulnerable people. You can make a difference by:
π Report any suspicions of trafficking to 911 immediately, or call the tips hotline at 1-888-373-7888.
π Learning the signs of exploitation to identify and report potential trafficking.
π Sharing resources with friends, family, and fellow fans traveling to Super Bowl LX.
π Supporting local and national outreach efforts aimed at education, prevention, and survivor care.

NEW: Hundreds of teens took over an L.A. home and threw a party that was busted by the police on Saturday night.
Video sent in by a resident who lives near the home, located on the corner of Quartz Avenue and Strathern Street in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Winnetka, shows police arriving at the property and opening a gate, telling those inside to leave as a helicopter circled overhead.
The attendees did so without much incident, but the sheer number of them β the resident said it was βlike 300 minorsβ β made for a wild sight.
