A man in his forties has become the eighth person in the US to die from smoking e-cigarettes as the number sickened by vaping rises to 500. The man, from Missouri, had normal lung function until he started using the devices in May, health officials said. He began experiencing trouble breathing which gradually got worse before he was taken to hospital in St Louis on August 22, where he died on Thursday. 🌬☠️
Shocking scans show how smoking e-cigarettes left a 19-year-old's lungs filled with solidified vape oil and rendered him unable to breathe on his own. Anthony Mayo, 19, of Erie, Pennsylvania, became seriously ill last week. He struggled to breathe, looked pale and felt sick, his parents say. Doctors found his lungs were severely congested with the solidified vape oil, which they compared to hardened grease from cooking bacon. It had caused Anthony, who has vaped for around two years, to have 'the lungs of a 60-year-old, two-pack-a-day, smoker'. Vaping works by heating liquid in a tank and turning it into steam to be inhaled - but some oil droplets may be left over as the liquid cools back down in the airways. 😱

Hurricane Imelda has claimed the life of a fourth person in Texas after a man was discovered drowned in his car on Friday, the announcement happened as second hurricane Lorena looked set to threaten Mexican beach resorts and five other storms swirled around the US. The combined activity of Imelda, Lorena, Humberto, Jerry, Kiko and Mario in both the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific basins are believed to tie the modern day record for storms, which was set in 1992, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). 'Anyone want a tropical storm? They are forming like roaches out there,' tweeted Eric Blake, one of the NHC forecasters. 'It's not something that you see all the time, but not unheard of, either,' added Weather Channel meteorologist Danielle Banks. Imelda has already dumped more than 40 inches of rain in some parts of Texas since Monday and the downpour may continue through Friday in parts of eastern Texas and western Louisiana. 😱πŸŒͺπŸ’¦

United States sending troops to bolster Saudi defenses after attack. U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday approved sending American troops to bolster Saudi Arabia's air defenses after the largest-ever attack on the kingdom's oil facilities, which Washington has squarely blamed on Iran. The Pentagon said the deployment would involve a moderate number of troops - not numbering thousands - and would be primarily defensive in nature. Reuters has previously reported that the Pentagon was considering sending anti-missile batteries, drones and more fighter jets. The United States is also considering keeping an aircraft carrier in the region indefinitely.

1727 Tuen Mun

Police and protestors were facing off outside Tuen Mun Town Hall. Protestors threw molotov to prevent the police from pushing forward and the police fired tear gas and rubber bullets in return. Many who participated in the Liberate Tuen Mun March today could not leave the scene as MTR stopped service at Tuen Mun and Yuen Long stations and most bus lines were suspended.
