Louisiana: A Denham Springs motorcycle officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon after a collision with an SUV at the intersection of Range and Railroad avenues.

The collision happened around 3:52 p.m., according to the Denham Springs Police Department.

The officer was taken to the local hospital for treatment.

75 years ago today the first atomic bomb was detonated in the Nevada desert, 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

Over the next 41 years, the US government would detonate another 1,020 nuclear weapons in Southern Nevada.

The flashes were so immense that they could be seen from over 400 miles away, momentarily lighting up the early morning sky as far as Montana and the Pacific coast.
