Utah: The Box Elder County deputy who was injured in the line of duty during a deadly shooting in Tremonton announced he would be running for the Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Mike Allred said it had always been a goal for him to be sheriff, adding that "recent issues" pushed his timeline forward.

"I've always been resilient in my duties, and I have now become relentless in the pursuit of evil that exists in our world," said Allred.

A Waukesha County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Thursday during a response to a domestic violence investigation on Oakwood Road.

According to a news release, deputies responded at approximately 7:21 p.m. to the house, during which a 64-year-old man intentionally directed his dog toward a deputy. The animal then bit the deputy, who, in turn, used deadly force to stop the dog’s attack.

The man was then taken into custody and later transported to the Waukesha County Jail on charges of battery to a law enforcement officer with use of a dangerous weapon, according to the release.

The deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

Just before 9:00 a.m. yesterday morning, the Misquamicut Fire Department and The Westerly Ambulance Corps, Inc., along with the Westerly Police Department, were dispatched to Little Masachaug Pond off Atlantic Avenue for a water rescue.

A dog successfully rescued was out for a morning walk with his owner and wandered onto the pond and fell through a thin layer of ice near the center.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is mourning a Sergeant who died while off-duty on Wednesday.

“It is with great sorrow that the Ohio State Highway Patrol recognizes the off-duty death of Sergeant Matthew Cook of the Defiance Post.”
