Today we remember a true hero, Lieutenant Michael Walker. We lost Lieutenant Walker 20 years ago when he was struck and killed by a vehicle while at the scene of an earlier crash on State Highway 17 near Santa Cruz.
A Caltrans employee was also struck and seriously injured by the vehicle when the driver lost control at approximately 10:15 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was killed in the crash.
Lieutenant Walker is survived by his wife, two daughters, and three brothers. EOW 12/31/2005
It’s projected to be raining for the next few days. If you have to drive, please slow down, activate your lights and windshield wipers, and leave plenty of space between vehicles.

We regret to pass on that a Christopher, Illinois (SE of St Louis) Firefighter was killed in the Line of Duty this morning.
Initial reports are that Firefighter Kody Van Fossan died in the Line of Duty in a fire with collapse, and his father (a fellow firefighter) was reportedly injured in the fire as well.
