Warning graphic!

The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Topanga Division.

On November 17, 2025, at around 12:25 p.m., Topanga Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect near the 8300 block of Northgate Avenue. The comments of the call indicated that the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Marcus Hayes, was armed with a firearm and had pointed it at the person reporting the incident.

Upon arrival, officers observed Hayes running past them and ordered him to drop the weapon. Hayes refused to comply, and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers followed Hayes as he traversed through apartment buildings before returning to Northgate Avenue, where he stopped and faced the officers while still holding the firearm. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Hayes raised the gun and fired at the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS). Hayes then threw the firearm onto the street and raised his hands.

As officers approached to detain him, he clenched his fist and attempted to strike them. Officers took Hayes to the ground and eventually took him into custody. Hayes was not struck by gunfire.

No officers or other community members were injured during this incident.

A loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a 15-round magazine, was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence.

Prayers for the Virginia State Trooper who was shot in the line of duty last night.πŸ™πŸ»

Virginia State Police say the incident happened around 12:31 a.m. Monday, after a trooper located a suspect vehicle traveling north on Route 29 that had been the subject of a BOLO issued by the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say the 2018 Ford Fusion had been involved in an earlier pursuit with sheriff’s deputies and had initially escaped. A Virginia State Trooper later located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but officials say the driver continued to flee.

According to state police, the trooper used a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to disable the vehicle on Deerview Road.

Investigators say the suspect then produced a rifle while inside the vehicle and fired at the trooper. The trooper returned fire, striking the suspect.

The suspect, identified by police as 25-year-old Jacob Wesley Adkins of Hurt, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police say the trooper sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. With assistance from Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the trooper was transported to Centra Gretna Medical Center, where the trooper was treated for injuries.

Remember Officer injured while pursuing a suspect in a stolen vehicle?

The Huntsville Police Department reports that Sean Brinson is in good spirits. After two weeks mostly immobilized in the hospital, his medical team is monitoring his injuries, and he’ll soon move to an in-patient facility to begin rehab and recovery. Despite the pain, Sean says he’s ready to get back on his feet.

And say an organization called Quilts for Cops sent Sean a handmade quilt to provide him some comfort during this trying time.

Praying for officer Sean complete healing and his needs met.πŸ™πŸ»
