Every evening in Seattle, hundreds of people gather in front of a Walgreens to sell items they’ve just shoplifted. By 8:00 p.m. the store closes. By 8:05, an open-air black market forms—rows of stolen goods laid out for buyers looking for cheap prices.

Shoplifting has become big business in Seattle. Theft under $750 is treated as a misdemeanor, and in practice, most officers do not pursue or arrest offenders. The result is predictable: organized retail theft operating openly, night after night.

This isn’t anecdotal or isolated. Washington now has the highest retail theft rate in the nation, averaging roughly $347 in stolen goods per resident. I’ve seen similar illegal markets on Skid Row in Los Angeles, but Seattle stands out. In many ways it functions as a lawless city—and in some respects, it has surpassed Portland in both scale and tolerance of disorder.

Prayers for the Chattanooga Police officer who was shot in the line of duty overnight.🙏🏻

Tennessee: On December 28, 2025, at 11:25 p.m., the Chattanooga Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the 5500 block of Highway 153.  When the officers arrived at the scene, the suspect shot at the officers and the officers returned fire.  A CPD officer was struck by the suspect’s gunfire.

The Chattanooga Fire Department and Hamilton County EMS responded to the scene and transported the officer to a local hospital.  The officer is in stable condition.

During the incident, the suspect stole a marked CPD vehicle to escape and crashed in Sequatchie County. The suspect attempted to run away from the crash, but was captured.  Once the suspect was taken into custody, it was discovered that he was also shot during the incident at the Highway 153 location. Emergency services responded and transported the suspect to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Last night, CHP received multiple calls for service reporting a large group of vehicles racing on the southern portion of the 110 freeway. Additional callers reported the activity asking, CHP can you do something for me?

CHP South Los Angeles Area officers caught up to the vehicles on the International Gateway Bridge in Long Beach. Over 21 arrests were made, and dozens of vehicles were impounded.

Great job C-Watch for keeping our roads safe by taking these reckless drivers off our roadway. Keep doing your thing.

Our thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt well wishes are with Correctional Officer Leenayhsia Pabon, 23, who was seriously injured in an off-duty accident in Springfield on Saturday, December 20. Officer Pabon remains hospitalized in stable but critical condition.

Although she has only been with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office since January, Leenayhsia’s infectious smile, kindness, and positive spirit have already left a lasting impression on her colleagues. She proudly serves at the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center, and she is a valued member of our HCSO family.

“When something like this happens, it affects all of us. Especially during the holiday season, moments like these remind us how closely connected we are as a department and as a community," said Sheriff Nick Cocchi. "I've been in contact with her mother and reaffirmed that we are here to help wherever we can. Our hearts are with Officer Pabon, her children, and her loved ones as we continue to pray for her strength and recovery."

Officer Pabon is the mother of two young children, ages 3 and 6. Friends and colleagues are working together to help support her family during this incredibly difficult time.
