Today, we honor and remember LASD K9 Jack, End of Watch (EOW) December 22, 2022.

On December 22, 2022, while working with his Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) handler at a barricaded suspect incident in the city of Gardena, K9 Jack was tragically shot and killed. His actions heroically saved numerous lives and ensured the safety of SEB members during tactical operations.

K9 Jack was a Belgian Malinois, imported from the Netherlands and trained for the SEB K9 Detail in March of 2019. K9 Jack proudly served the Department for four years.

During December, the FBI’s Los Angeles Office surged its violent crime resources and teamed up with federal, state and local partners to conduct 36 joint enforcement operations.  These operations resulted in significant disruptions of gang offenders and drug trafficking networks in and around the Los Angeles region, yielding the following accomplishments as part of Operation Coast To Coast:

o92 Criminal Complaints filed
o8 Search Warrants executed
o223 arrests
o102.5 Kilograms of Fentanyl seized
o470.5 Kilograms of Methamphetamine seized
o1.5 Kilograms of Cocaine seized
oApproximately $3,000.00 in US Currency seized
o29 Firearms recovered

Another source of revenue for Los Angeles gangs are β€œcasita” operations, illegal gambling establishments where narcotics, prostitution and firearms trafficking are conducted.  Many casitas were targeted by various task forces leading to the detention of over 130 people and the seizure of numerous firearms and narcotics.

Additionally, through the FBI’s work on the Darkweb, investigators identified one of the largest vendors selling fentanyl and other controlled substances which are distributed throughout the United States. Warrants served during this operation resulted in the arrest of a Chinese national in the United States illegally, and the seizure of nearly 200 pounds of fentanyl, methamphetamine and other narcotics.  The defendant allegedly shipped over 100 parcels of narcotics to buyers throughout the United States on a daily basis for over a year.
