Charles Shay, a Native American veteran who saved lives on Omaha Beach as a D-Day medic, has died at the age of 101.

Shay died at his home in Bretteville-L’Orgueilleuse in France’s Normandy region, his longtime friend and carer Marie-Pascale Legrand said.

“I guess I was prepared to give my life if I had to. Fortunately, I did not have to,” Shay said in March 2024 in an interview with The Associated Press.

“I had been given a job, and the way I looked at it, it was up to me to complete my job,” he recalled. “I did not have time to worry about my situation of being there and perhaps losing my life. There was no time for this.”

Ohio: A man with multiple warrants for violent offenses holed up in a resident's garage for an hour before he was taken into custody, Stow police said Dec. 3.

Police said that the incident began around noon when officers conducted a traffic stop on Darrow Road. The driver fled down Stow Road in his car. He then ran on foot near Bryn Mawr Drive and through backyards along Klein Avenue.

Police located him within minutes inside a garage, according to the department's Facebook post. Officers fired pepper ball rounds and used a drone before taking him in custody.

⚠️The FBI continues to warn the public, and Chinese speaking individuals residing in the U.S. specifically, about an evolving financial fraud scheme in which criminals impersonate U.S. health insurance providers and Chinese law enforcement. 

HOW THE SCAM WORKS:
Targeted individuals receive a call from a spoofed telephone number of a legitimate US health insurance provider’s claims department. The call is conducted in Chinese, and the recipient is asked about recent insurance claims for alleged surgical procedures. The criminal then shows the recipient fraudulent invoices on screen via video communication software and demands payment. If the recipient denies having filed the claim or that the procedure took place, the criminal transfers the recipient to someone purporting to be Chinese law enforcement. The law enforcement impersonator then asks for personal identifying information, threatens the individual with extradition or foreign prosecution, and demands a large payment for bail. The impersonator may instruct the victim to download video communication software and maintain connectivity for 24-hour surveillance.

Massachusetts:  Three people were injured, including a State Police trooper, after a crash in Bridgewater on Wednesday.

According to State police, around 8:20 a.m., officers responded to a 3-car crash on the ramp from I-495 north to Route 24 north.

Preliminary information indicates that a passenger car struck an unmarked State Police cruiser from behind and propelled it into a third vehicle immediately in front.

The Trooper and the two civilian operators were transported to area hospitals for care for non-life-threatening injuries.
