RECKLESS!
On Monday, December 1, around 12:30 a.m., AIR5 spotted a reckless driver on US 95 at Charleston.
The light-colored sedan was traveling at speeds between 120 and 140 miles per hour, weaving dangerously close to cars and passing on the shoulder.
The vehicle was seen sparking at some points while Air 5 tried to keep up with the dangerous speeds.
As you can see from this helicopter video, this could have ended in tragedy.
One of our patrol officers spotted the vehicle and pulled it over on the southbound I-15 ramp from US 95.
Behind the wheel was an 18-year-old who showed signs of impairment.
The car also had a 16, 17, and another 18-year-old inside.
Dangerous, deadly, and downright dumb.
The driver was arrested, and the car was impounded.
We are cracking down on dangerous driving, from the air and on the ground. So far, 148 people killed on roads within our jurisdiction in 2025.

NEW: Former Sacramento County Sheriffโs Deputy Marvin Morales, 40, is the suspect accused of stabbing his 11-year-old son to death inside their Elk Grove home.
The boyโs mother reportedly saw the attack unfold on a home security camera while she was at work and called 911. When officers arrived, the child was critically injured and later died at the hospital. His 6-year-old sister survived.
Morales fled the scene, launching a multi-agency pursuit down I-5 that ended in Lodi after officers deployed spike strips. A crash, a shootout, and Morales was finally taken down. He later died at the hospital.
Morales wasnโt just a random man spiraling out of control. He was a former deputy, fired last year after allegedly overdosing on fentanyl inside a sheriffโs station bathroom, using evidence seized in a case, and then lying to investigators.
Red flags werenโt just present; they were practically waving in neon. Yet the institution that once armed him, trained him, and trusted him with authority did little to acknowledge the ongoing danger to those closest to him.
And now, the deeper questions begin.

Even if the snowfall has slowed, temperatures are still dropping. Roads that look dry may be hiding icy patches as everything refreezes tonight. Earlier on I-70, an Adams County Deputy was struck while helping two motorists who had spun out. Thankfully, the Deputy was not injured and we are investigating the crash.
Please slow down, stay alert, and drive cautiously to your destination.

NEW: Today, a reporter asked whether the relentless scrutiny - the constant โbeing slammed for this and thatโ by command staff pouring over body-worn camera footage, was driving the recruitment and retention crisis.
LA Sheriff Luna's response? โI think youโre talking about the lack of support most law-enforcement agencies have had for the last several years.โ
No. Thatโs not what he was talking about.
The โlack of supportโ didnโt come from the public, it came from you.
Youโre the one who threw your own deputy, Trevor Kirk, under the bus, served him up to the feds, and let him be indicted for doing the job LASD department trained him to do.
You stood by while the political elite shaped the narrative, and you watched the press run that body-cam footage on a loop while Kirk was persecuted by the court of public opinion for following policy under your leadership.
Recruitment and retention didnโt collapse because of โlack of support.โ
It collapsed because deputies watched what you did to Deputy Trevor Kirk, and deputies know it could just as easily be them.

REST IN PEACE, HERO:
Charles Shay, a Native American veteran who saved lives on Omaha Beach as a D-Day medic, has died at the age of 101.
Shay died at his home in Bretteville-LโOrgueilleuse in Franceโs Normandy region, his longtime friend and carer Marie-Pascale Legrand said.
โI guess I was prepared to give my life if I had to. Fortunately, I did not have to,โ Shay said in March 2024 in an interview with The Associated Press.
โI had been given a job, and the way I looked at it, it was up to me to complete my job,โ he recalled. โI did not have time to worry about my situation of being there and perhaps losing my life. There was no time for this.โ

NEW: Per source familiar, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) will continue to run for Congress, not in Texas, but in the newly gerrymandered CA-48, his current district, which will be redrawn to heavily favor a Democratic challenger as a result of California passing Prop 50.
Iโm told friends and Congressional colleagues asked him to consider running in TX after Prop 50 passed, but he has decided to fight it out in CA and expects to have President Trumpโs full support.
โWeโre not quitting on Californiaโ, source says.
