On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, 11-year-old Aiden Antonio Torres De Paz was attempting to retrieve a soccer ball outside of his residence in Escondido, California, when he was run over by a vehicle. Aiden died from his injuries the following day on Thanksgiving morning.

Connecticut: The female officer was attacked in what union officials say was an attempted sexual assault by an inmate.

During security check, an inmate began choking and punching the officer in the face without being provoked or warned.

Staff members immediately responded to the incident and restrained the inmate, who was transported to the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution’s Restrictive Housing Unit.

The attack was an attempted sexual assault of the officer by an inmate serving 20 years for other sexually-related crimes, according to AFSCME Local 391, the union that represents correction officers.

In a news release from the union, they said it happened in the industries area and that the inmate dragged the officer into a camera "dead-zone," where security cameras can't see.

Union officials said the officer sustained a fractured eye socket, as well as scrapes and bruises on her upper body and face.

The officer was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released, The Department of Correction said.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is warning drivers to slow down as road conditions deteriorate due to wintry weather conditions.

The warning comes after a trooper was struck in his patrol vehicle on Monday.

The accident happened on I-435 in northeast Kansas, where the trooper was working a crash. The KHP said the trooper was in his patrol car, parked on the right shoulder with emergency lights on, when it was struck by a passing vehicle.

“Slow down and move over for flashing lights, every single time!” said the Kansas Highway Patrol Troop A.

“This could have ended much worse. Do your part, slow down and move over. Give first responders the space they need to stay safe.”

LATEST: L.A. City Council delayed action on wildfire rebuilding fee waivers — sending the issue back to committee after clashes over cost, scope, and fears the program could be misused.

At issue are two competing plans:
— Budget Committee plan: waive fees only for single-family homes/duplexes rebuilt up to 110% of their original size — $86M price tag.
— Ad Hoc Recovery plan: a far broader waiver for all fire-damaged structures with no size cap — up to $278M.

Councilmember Bob Blumenfield urged caution: “The fee-waiver concept is tricky… there’s really no such thing — the General Fund pays, at a time we’re struggling financially.” Members Tim McOsker and Katy Yaroslavsky also questioned voting without clearer numbers.
