UPDATE: A 27-year veteran Port St. Lucie police sergeant was shot in the face during a mental health-related neighbor dispute Monday evening and remains in surgery at a local hospital.

Sergeant Erik LeVasseur was among six officers who responded to Town Park around 6 p.m. for what police described as a neighbor dispute involving mental health issues.

He was reportedly shot in the face from an assault rifle after officers responded to a disturbance. He was taken to the hospital and is in surgery. The shooter was shot and killed by officers.

A 32-year-old officer with the Mankato Police Department was injured Monday morning after being hit by a vehicle while attending to another that had spun out on Highway 169, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The State Patrol responded at about 8:35 a.m. Monday to the crash on northbound Highway 169 at the Northstar Bridge in Mankato. When authorities arrived, they learned a 2015 Kia Optima, driven by a 24-year-old woman from Lake Crystal, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with the officer’s parked Dodge Durango squad car. The Kia struck the squad car at about 50 mph, the State Patrol says.

The officer, identified by the State Patrol as Colin Blaine Johnson, had to be hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say the officer was not wearing a seat belt at the time, as the squad car was parked helping an unrelated motorist. The officer did not lose consciousness, and reported neck and back stiffness.

DEVELOPING: An LA man is in federal custody for throwing two molotov cocktails into downtown Federal building doors Monday in a self-described terrorist attack, according to federal law enforcement documents.   No injuries.  Investigators believe the 54-year-old was motivated by anger at the federal government over “separating families” telling agents afterward “I attacked your b*tch ass.”     Man allegedly lit his own rented apartment on fire before the attack, feds say.     Details expected today.
