I have a good relationship with the local deputies of my LASD sub-station. They are professional, hard-working and helpful, but they are bearing the brunt of the defund the police movement, county mis-management of funds and short staffing.  

Last night, a deputy told me how mandatory overtime is killing his home life. He works three 16 hours shifts a week, starting at 3pm, then upon the conclusion of his last eight hour shift for the week, commutes 90 minutes home. Because LA is so expensive, he can only afford a home 100 miles away, so in the eight hours between shifts, he sleeps in his car, or on a couch at the precinct.

Yes, he gets a three-day weekend after his 56 hour work week, but he's only home during that time and uses it to catch-up on sleep. He's been doing this since 2020, with no end in sight.

Treating law enforcement like this puts us all in danger.

BREAKING: Per multiple ICE sources, the suspected DUI hit & run driver arrested for allegedly killing an elderly pedestrian in Orange County, CA on Friday is a Mexican illegal alien & ICE fugitive who has had an active deportation order since 2012.

I’m told 57-year-old Humberto Munoz Gatica, a Mexican national, was arrested by ICE in 2011 for being in the U.S. illegally. He was released by the Obama administration ICE with a notice to appear in court, but never showed up, and was ordered deported in absentia by a federal immigration judge in 2012.

He has been an ICE fugitive ever since, living in the sanctuary state of California.

Police suspect Gatica was driving under the influence in Dana Point, CA on Friday when he crashed into a pedestrian, 71-year-old Barry William Tutt, then fled the scene. 

Tutt died as a result of his injuries. 

Gatica has been booked into the Orange County jail on suspicion of DUI causing death or bodily injury & hit and run causing death or bodily injury. 

I’m told Gatica has a prior arrest for robbery in 2011 in Orange County, CA, but he received a plea deal and was convicted instead of the lesser crime of grand theft and was sentenced to 10 days in jail.
