Emergency Management has visited with property owners on site this morning to assess the damage to the earthen embankment at Carter Lake. This is a mid-sized lake on private property. There is an estimated 8-inch hole in the earthen embankment with a steady flow of water being released. Property owners are using high-volume pumps to lower the level of the lake below the damaged area in the embankment. Progress in lowering the lake level has been made, and property owners advised us that the flow of water through the hole in the embankment has lessened.
Local officials are pleased with the efforts being made. Property owners intend to seek assistance from an engineer for repairs. While this work is underway, it is recommended that persons residing in the area of concern avoid this area.

I have a good relationship with the local deputies of my LASD sub-station. They are professional, hard-working and helpful, but they are bearing the brunt of the defund the police movement, county mis-management of funds and short staffing.
Last night, a deputy told me how mandatory overtime is killing his home life. He works three 16 hours shifts a week, starting at 3pm, then upon the conclusion of his last eight hour shift for the week, commutes 90 minutes home. Because LA is so expensive, he can only afford a home 100 miles away, so in the eight hours between shifts, he sleeps in his car, or on a couch at the precinct.
Yes, he gets a three-day weekend after his 56 hour work week, but he's only home during that time and uses it to catch-up on sleep. He's been doing this since 2020, with no end in sight.
Treating law enforcement like this puts us all in danger.
