And those results are being thwarted by a government shutdown and more generally by this crazy filibuster rule.

And pass critical bills to save the U.S.: Voter ID, Same-day voting, paper ballots, proof of citizenship. If the filibuster is not lifted, modified or overturned by Republicans, Democrats will abolish it to pass their agenda.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our very own, Sergeant Lamar Dyar. Sgt. Dyar faithfully served the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia for over 20 years. During his time with our agency, he served in many roles from Deputy Sheriff to working with a federal task force. He dedicated his career to protecting others, and he did it with integrity and heart.

Sgt. Dyar was a proud father to five beautiful daughters, whom he loved more than anything. He often spoke about them with a smile, and being their dad was his greatest honor.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the entire Fayette County Sheriff’s Office family during this difficult time.

Police arrested 21-year-old George Suazo on a warrant and charged him with assault on a police officer. He was released on $25k bond.

NEW: Law enforcement and emergency responders have been called to the scene of a helicopter crash in Wilson County, Tennessee Saturday afternoon.

"The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office is currently on the scene of a LifeFlight helicopter crash in the 7100 block of Cairo Bend Road. Deputies are working in coordination with multiple responding agencies at this time.

We are asking motorists to please avoid the area and seek an alternate route to allow emergency personnel to safely and effectively manage the scene.

NEW: A Malibu homeowner tells me the insurance premium presented to his family to cover their home, minus earthquake coverage, is $90,000 per year.

With limited insurance options -- companies like State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, Nationwide and other major companies have stopped writing new policies in California -- and without a better option, they are going without insurance.

Insurance companies cite challenges like increased wildfire mismanagement, the high cost of construction, over-regulation and difficulty in getting approval by the state for rate hikes as the reason for higher premiums.

The Malibu family's only option is the "insurance of last resort," the California Fair Plan, which recently had to collect $1 billion to keep from going under. "We are one fire away from insolvency," says one CA assemblyman.

When that happens, there will be no insurance option for California homeowners.

BREAKING: BIG power outage in Los Angeles.

Nearly 100,000 LADWP customers are without power after widespread outages hit the city Saturday afternoon

An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer died in a fiery one-car crash in Santa Clarita overnight, and a woman who was not involved in the collision was arrested for driving through the scene of the investigation. 

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the crash was reported at 2:14 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Cinema Drive and Bouquet Canyon Road, not far from the Valencia Mart Shopping Center. 

Firefighters were the first to arrive on scene and discovered the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“While deputies investigated the deadly crash, a separate driver plowed through the active crime scene perimeter,” an LASD spokesperson said. “Deputies arrested the woman on suspicion of driving under the influence.”

The woman’s name was not immediately released. 
There were reports that the decedent in the crash was an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer, and an LAPD spokesperson confirmed that detail just before 9 a.m. Saturday.

The spokesperson did not disclose the officer’s name but did say that more information would be released after the officer’s next of kin is notified.
