Nassau Police officer Michael Hyland, injured while assisting with a funeral procession in early October, is released from Stony Brook University Hospital Thursday.

"After 31 days in the hospital, Police Officer Michael Hyland headed to St. Charles Rehabilitation today to continue his recovery from a motorcycle crash that nearly killed him.

Officer Hyland was escorting a funeral procession last month in Suffolk County when his motorcycle was hit by a truck. He spent eight days on life support and almost a month in the ICU, with injuries from head to toe – including a punctured lung, broken bones, and a spine that separated from his skull.

Today, County Executive Blakeman, Commissioner Ryder, and Officer Hyland’s Nassau County PD family celebrated his release from Stony Brook University Hospital and the next step in his amazing recovery.

Bobby Michael Dennis — the suspect accused of ambushing a Jacksonville police officer and K-9 with an AR-15 — faced a judge today.

South Carolina: A deputy in Berkeley County was attacked during a traffic stop and left injured as the suspect escaped. Officers continue to face this level of violence throughout the state.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in locating a man who allegedly assaulted one of its deputies during a traffic stop.

Deputies stopped Kofi Amartei Opoku Nkromah, 39, on Old Mill Road in the St. Stephen area just before 6 a.m. Thursday for failing to maintain his lane and for disregarding a stop sign, sheriff’s spokesperson Carli Carr said.

During the stop, Carr said, deputies determined Nkromah was attempting to lie about his identity. When they attempted to detain him, he assaulted a deputy and ran away.

Carr said Nkromah has outstanding warrants with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and is a known violent offender.

Anyone with information about Nkromah should call Berkeley County dispatch at 843-719-5065.
