Texas shooter 'failed background check due to mental health issues' but exploited loophole by purchasing weapon in private sale before going on shooting spree, killing seven people and injuring 22 others. The gunman in a West Texas rampage that left seven dead obtained his AR-style rifle through a private sale, allowing him to evade a federal background check that previously blocked him from getting a gun, according to a law enforcement official. The official spoke to The Associated Press Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation. Authorities said Ator 'was on a long spiral of going down' and had been fired from his oil services job the morning of the shooting, and that he called 911 both before and after the rampage began. Ator had previously failed a federal background check for a firearm, said John Wester, an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Wester did not say when Ator failed the background check or why.

A Cincinnati-area high school football game came to an early end on Saturday when one player protested the officiating by head-butting a referee. After a penalty was called during the second quarter of Roger Bacon High School's game against visiting Dayton Dunbar High, a Dunbar defender approached an official before slamming his head into the referee's face, sending the older man stumbling backwards. The player, who has not been identified, then removed his helmet and pursued another official as teammates and coaches herded him off the field. The school is already on probation with the Ohio High School Athletic Association through 2022 for a 2016 incident when a player allegedly tried to lose a game intentionally. The school district and the OHSAA are investigating the incident.

Hell in the Bahamas ๐ŸŒช๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
Hurricane Dorian has killed at least five people and destroyed as many as 13,000 homes during its path of destruction through the Bahamas. The catastrophic onslaught sent floodwaters up to the second floors of some buildings, trapped people in attics and led to others fleeing from one shelter to another. Photos have captured just a glimpse of the devastation in the Bahamas. One image shows dozens of capsized boats at a harbor, while video shows stalled cars on flooded roads and completely destroyed homes. The Grand Bahama airport was said to be under 6 feet of water. The exact toll of the devastation in the Bahamas will not be clear until the storm passes and rescue crews can get on the ground. The storm hovered over the islands for almost 24 hours. Bahamas prime minister Hubert Minnis said: 'We are in the midst of a historic tragedy. The devastation is unprecedented and extensive.' ๐ŸŒช๐Ÿ˜ฑ
Five people were killed today as looters in South Africa destroyed shops and attacked drivers in a third day of xenophobic rioting. Hordes of people - some armed with axes and machetes - terrorised Johannesburg hours after mobs tore through the township of Alexandra, forcing police to open fire with rubber bullets. Police, who have so far arrested more than 90 people, fanned out across Johannesburg and Pretoria. Many gutted, emptied shops remained closed as shop owners, many of them foreign, feared to return to their property.

Hong Kong police have been accused of tackling a student outside a school after pupils went on strike to support the city's anti-government protests for a second day. The teenage boy sustained severe bleeding on his mouth and two of his front teeth were knocked out as a result of the incident this morning, according to reports. Police have dismissed the allegation that the student had been 'tackled'. A spokesman claimed that the pair 'slipped and fell' on wet ground when the officer was trying to chase protesting pupils. #HK
