A child kidnapping victim who has grown up to become an NYPD recruit was reunited at a department ceremony Thursday with the two retired cops who tracked down his creepy abductor — and whose heroic work inspired him to join the force.

Stephen Johnson, 30, wiped away tears and embraced former detectives Richard O’Brien and James Rice — who comforted him in the wake of the crime and then busted his abductor — when they surprised him with well-wishes at the department’s Gun & Shield Day ceremony.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: LAPD investigates deadly hit-and-run crash in Lake View Terrace.

A pedestrian died and another was injured after a driver crashed into them in Lake View Terrace.

Panorama City, CA A large fire broke out at an apartment complex located at 14333 W Roscoe Blvd in Panorama City at approximately 10:18pm on Wednesday, October 30, 2025.

A witness driving by and pulled over captured video of heavy flames erupting from the front of the building. The blaze rapidly intensified, spreading and exposing multiple residential units to the flames. The alert passerby immediately called 911. Los Angeles Fire Department arrived swiftly and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading further into the complex.

Firefighters on scene determined the blaze originated in an electrical vault. They requested assistance from the Department of Water and Power to repair the damaged equipment. DWP requested LAPD due to someone tampering with the box. No injuries were reported in the incident.
