Yesterday, Border Patrol Agents conducted enforcement operations near 27th and Whipple Ave. A large crowd of  75 to 100 rioters surrounded  law enforcement who set up a perimeter after agents were boxed in by a large box truck. Rioters then shot at agents with commercial artillery shell fireworks.

A Border Patrol transport van carrying illegal aliens attempting to get to the safety of the perimeter was then attacked. Border Patrol agents were able to secure the van and get it into the perimeter. The mob of rioters grew more hostile and violent, advancing toward agents and began throwing rocks and other objects at agents, including one that struck Chief Greg Bovino in the head.

Border Patrol agents repeated multiple warnings to back up and that chemical agents would be deployed if warnings were ignored. Riot control measures were deployed, including by Chief Bovino, and arrests were made. Agents properly used their training. The use of chemical munitions was conducted in full accordance with CBP policy and was necessary to ensure the safety of both law enforcement and the public.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: U.S. Coast Guard personnel opened fire Thursday night on a U-Haul truck after its driver ignored commands to stop at the entrance of a California base, the agency said.

Dramatic video shows the box truck with its headlights on reversing toward security personnel stationed around a vehicle outside Coast Guard Base Alameda at around 10 p.m. 

Moments later, flashes of gunfire erupted as officers shouted orders from a barricade. The U-Haul driver then hit the gas and accelerated forward.

DHS statement on last night's shooting: Coast Guard security shot at the U-Haul after issuing verbal commands to stop and the driver continuing to back up.

The driver was wounded in the stomach and is being held for mental health evaluation. A bystander was struck by a fragment and released from the hospital.

On Thursday morning, ICE officers initiated a vehicle stop in Avondale, AZ. The target’s vehicle failed to stop, and the driver and passenger attempted to return to the residence.

The target weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest. The two men fled from the vehicle and barricaded themselves in the residence.

Officers immediately established a perimeter and requested backup by local law and federal law enforcement partners. Two ICE officers involved were taken to the hospital for medical evaluation – they are expected to be released without serious injuries.
