NEW: Despite recently cutting $25 million from the LA County DAβs office, LA county officials voted yesterday to declare an βimmigration emergencyβ, giving them the authority to provide taxpayer funded rent relief, legal aid, & other services to illegal aliensβ¦
When the ICE arrests first started happening in Los Angeles, city and county leaders said the protests occurred in "such a small area that the national guard wasn't needed." But today, the LA County Board of Supervisors have passed an emergency declaration for all of LA county, paving the way for taxpayer resources to go to illegal alien residents, including rent relief and legal aid. Word is the supervisors are considering adding a moratorium on rent for those aggrieved.
The current board, seen below, voted 4-1 on the measure, with the one vote against coming from Kathryn Barger, who warned that the countyβs action could provoke legal consequences.
