In 1886, Aguirre and his horse, El Capitan, courageously saved 19 people from the Los Angeles River during a devastating flood. He helped acquire the Department’s first automobile in 1907, ushering in a new era of modern policing.

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor Sheriff Aguirre and all those whose heritage, service, and values continue to strengthen our Department and community.

NEW: Brentwood gas station owner dresses up dinosaur in Dodgers gear.

The green fiberglass dinosaur, nicknamed Claire by the owners of the Sinclair station in the 13000 block of San Vicente Boulevard, was stolen in late September, according to John Fawcett, who owns the station. After it was returned this week, Fawcett dressed up the statue in Dodgers gear ahead of the team's matchup against the Phillies.
