Los Angeles Police Department’s Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred in Hollenbeck Division.

On August 22, 2025, at around 8:20 p.m., Hollenbeck Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of “ADW suspect there now,” at the 5400 block of Monterey Road. The comments of the call indicated that the suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Bryan Guzman, threatened the person reporting (PR) with a knife. When the officers arrived, the officers contacted the PR who directed them to the suspect Guzman, who was outside standing by a vehicle. The officers gave Guzman verbal commands to put his hands on top of his head. As the officers attempted to take Guzman into custody, he produced a knife resulting in an Officer Involved Shooting.

Guzman was struck by the gunfire and fell to the ground, where he was taken into custody without further incident. Officers rendered aid until the arrival of Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. Guzman was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

A 12-inch kitchen knife was recovered at scene and booked as evidence.

No officers or other community members were injured as a result of this incident.

We lost a hero last night. 

Deputy Charles Riley, who served with the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office for 6 years in the Uniform Patrol Division, gave his life protecting the community. His dedication to duty and commitment to serving others will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow deputies as we honor his sacrifice."

My son, Captain Brett Michael Stassi, Jr., a 20-year veteran of the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office serving in the Criminal Investigation Division, remains in intensive care this morning. He continues to fight for his life, and we ask everyone to keep him and our entire family in your prayers.🙏🏻

Our deputies are deeply hurting as we grieve the loss of one of our own and pray for another’s recovery. Please continue to keep the men and women of the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office in your thoughts as they navigate this tragedy together.
