On July 25, 2025, Patrolman Brendan Fayles demonstrated extraordinary bravery and decisive action during a life-threatening incident on South Street. Patrolman Fayles was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in which a vehicle had crashed into a residence and subsequently caught fire.

Upon arrival, Patrolman Fayles observed that the vehicle was beginning to ignite. Recognizing the immediate danger to the occupant inside, he took swift and courageous action by smashing the passenger side window and without regard to his own safety, successfully extricated the injured occupant and moved them to safety just before the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

Patrolman Fayles’ quick response, presence of mind, and heroic efforts directly contributed to saving the life of the accident victim. His actions reflect the highest standards of courage and dedication to duty, and they exemplify the selfless service that is the foundation of this department’s mission.

New York: Fulton County deputy injured after being attacked by suspect’s dog.

An Oppenheim man was arrested on Monday after he allegedly let his dog attack a Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy. Brandon Smith faces a felony assault charge, as well as a weapons charge from a separate arrest that day.

Members of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police first responded to Smith’s home, located in the area of State Highway 29 near Bliss Road, Monday morning for a report of suspicious activity. Smith had reportedly called authorities after he believed two people were stealing from his property.

Smith then purposefully opened the door of his residence, letting the dog run outside and bite one of the deputies, causing puncture wounds and lacerations to his arm, authorities said. The injured deputy was subsequently treated by members of the Johnstown Fire Department Nathan Littauer Hospital Staff before returning to work.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has requested 1,000 National Guard troops to combat rising crime in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport. He says a police shortage is hampering law enforcement and wants the Guard deployed through the end of fiscal year 2026.
