JUST IN: Car crashes into an Amazon Fresh store in West Chester.

The Evansville Police Department, Indiana, identified the Police Officer that was shot as Officer Sam Taylor. Currently, Officer Taylor is in stable condition, but the road to recovery will be long and challenging. Medical staff are concerned that he may lose the use of his lower extremities due to the debilitating injuries he sustained. The details of the shooting are harrowing, one bullet grazed his left head, while another hit his upper left arm.  What makes Officer Taylor's bravery even more remarkable is his background. This young man, in his mid-twenties, spent six years in active duty with the Army Infantry and then with the Army Reserves. The incident unfolded when a 15-year-old juvenile, driving a stolen vehicle, was detained at the scene after an officer used an electric stun device. However, the teen managed to escape when the sounds of gunshots rang out and was later found on the roof of a nearby school, where he was taken into custody. The other passenger in the stolen car fled and shot at police, striking Officer Taylor. Other Officers returned fire and hit that suspect, who is in stable condition. Police Chief Smith was visibly emotional when describing Officer Taylor's injuries, showing body camera footage from the incident.
