Tennessee: A Memphis Police officer was injured in a crash on the same road where officers were investigating a shots fired call, the department said Friday.

Just before 7:15 Friday evening, MPD said, officers were sent to a two-car crash involving a squad car at W. Red Oak Dr. and Mimosa Rd. Police said the officer involved in the crash was taken to the hospital for treatment, but is expected to recover.

Up the street at W. Red Oak Dr. and Red Oak Dr., police said, officers were investigating a shots fired call. They said they didn't find a victim, but had one person detained.

FOX asked if the officer who was injured in the crash had been investigating the shots fired call, but did not hear back.

WellSpan Health spokesperson said both of its injured patients — one an officer from Northern York Regional and the other a sheriff's deputy — had been upgraded to satisfactory condition. Separately, Sheriff's Office Lt. David Godfrey was named as one of the injured in Wednesday's shooting.

A North Texas police officer was injured in a car crash Friday afternoon during a procession for the Hurst police chief, who died earlier this week.

Hurst Police Chief Steve Niekamp, 56, died of an “unexpected health complication,” officials with the City of Hurst said Thursday night.

The crash, during a procession of officers to accompany Niekamp’s body from the medical examiner’s office to a funeral home, occurred at the intersection of Precinct Line Road and River Trails Boulevard in northeast Fort Worth.

A Fort Worth Fire and EMS spokesperson said that the officer was taken to Harris Methodist Hospital with serious injuries.
