END OF WATCH: K9 Diesel was put to rest this morning at the Animal Hospital of Signal Mountain.

That’s after Chattanooga Police say he was badly injured on the job Monday night as they responded to a domestic call.

The suspect inside of the home had a rifle, and was refusing to come outside, according to the information police had at the time. Assistant Chief Rusty Morrison tells us K9 operations deploy alongside their SWAT operations -- it was later determined no one was inside the home.

K9 Diesel was injured after sweeping the house through a broken window; when he tried to exit, we're told his back legs got hung on the window frame, he reacted, and severely cut himself on both legs. This severed an artery in one of his legs.

Diesel underwent surgery in the aftermath, and despite being stabilized, it was determined his quality of life was diminished. That led to the decision to humanely euthanize him.

First responders lined up to say their goodbyes as Diesel was carried inside of the animal hospital.

Diesel was 3 years old and served with the Chattanooga Police Department since April 2024.

South Carolina: A Berkeley County deputy is recovering after being struck by a vehicle while working a detail at a road construction site on I-26 early Monday morning.

The driver, Jose Maria Zuniga, was arrested and booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center shortly before 7 a.m. on multiple charges, including driving under suspension, driving too fast for conditions, endangering a highway worker in a work zone, open container violation, and endangering emergency service personnel, according to jail records.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said the deputy was taken to the hospital for treatment but is expected to recover.

Louisiana: A suspect and a deputy were left injured following a high-speed chase in East Baton Rouge Parish.

An East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office deputy observed the suspect, Tye Carlock, 26, going 112 miles per hour on a motorcycle on Siegen Lane, authorities said. They added that the deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop, but Carlock refused to stop and continued to go more than 100 miles per hour.

A chase began, which deputies terminated while still on Siegen Lane.

Another deputy was ahead of the pursuit and was turning on Siegen Lane. According to EBRSO, Carlock was still weaving in and out of traffic and drove past about 14 cars at a high rate of speed before crashing into the deputy.

The deputy’s patrol vehicle is no longer drivable, but the deputy suffered minor injuries.
