NEW: An Orange County high school student was suspended after wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat to school, an action that led to an argument and his assault.

The incident occurred at Laguna Beach High School on September 11, the day after Charlie Kirk was shot and killed. The student, Zach Hornstein, said he wore the hat to stand in solidarity with Kirk.

Hornstein said at the end of the school day, a girl pulled his hat off and threw it in a trash can in the girls' restroom. He said she then started using profanity to describe President Donald Trump.

"I made a joke towards them and said, 'If you don't like it here, Canada's open borders, feel free to go,'" Hornstein said.

Palmdale Renames Avenue Q to Honor Fallen Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer

The City of Palmdale has officially renamed Avenue Q as Deputy Clinkunbroomer Avenue in memory of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer.

The tribute comes three years to the day after Deputy Clinkunbroomer was tragically shot and killed in an unprovoked ambush outside the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. The new street sign stands as a lasting reminder of his sacrifice and service to the community.

Deputy Clinkunbroomer, who followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather in law enforcement, is remembered as a dedicated deputy and devoted family member. His loss deeply affected the Palmdale community and the entire Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

City officials said the renaming ensures that his name and legacy will live on for generations, honoring his bravery and commitment to public safety.

 The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was honored to host the 2025 ALERT International Conference in Valencia. The conference brought together law enforcement professionals nationwide to advance training, safety, and wellness in the profession.

Our LASD motorsport team participated with our Emergency Vehicle Operations Training staff in a track day that included collision avoidance, EV and patrol SUV performance, and off-road courses. Deputies also engaged in sessions on risk management, pursuit policy and training, mental health and wellness, and wildfire response.

One of the most impactful moments came from the “Close Calls and Narrow Misses” presentation, where deputies shared experiences that highlighted how training, preparation, and presence of mind save lives in critical situations.

We are grateful to ALERT International, the instructors, and all the agencies that participated. The lessons learned will continue to strengthen our commitment to public safety and professional excellence.

Colorado: Two Weld County deputies injured due to deputy discharging weapon during training

[WELD COUNTY, COLO.] Today, at 3:17 P.M. Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputies were participating in firearms training at the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, Sam Brownlee Training Center located in Carr, CO.

Towards the conclusion of training, while no longer on the firing line, and securing their gear, a deputy discharged their firearm and injured themselves and one other deputy. Both deputies were taken to the hospital and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

New York State Police Sgt. Nigel Barnett, the station commander in Cortlandt, was killed in a motorcycle crash Tuesday morning on the Taconic Parkway. He was 49 years old.

State police say Barnett was traveling southbound on a 2025 Ducati motorcycle in the Town of Fishkill around 6:30 a.m.
They say he was ejected from the motorcycle after losing control and struck a guardrail.

Barnett was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a 19-year veteran of the state police.
