Georgia: A Clayton County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been hospitalized after authorities said a high-speed pursuit led to a crash on I-75 late Wednesday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the deputy was chasing a white Infiniti going south on the interstate around 9:30 p.m. when the fleeing driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a tractor-trailer on its left cab side.

At that point, the semitruck’s driver veered into the right emergency lane, where it struck the patrol vehicle as the deputy tried to pass it, GSP said. The impact pushed the deputy’s vehicle into the guardrail, causing it to overturn and come to a rest on its roof on top of the guardrail.

The deputy was pulled from his vehicle and rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, according to GSP. His condition was not disclosed.

BREAKING: The FBI is releasing video of the shooter who murdered Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Following the shooting, the individual jumps from a rooftop and runs away from the location.

Trace evidence collected from the rooftop includes shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print. The shooter's weapon and ammunition were recovered from a wooded area near the university. Correctional Officer Jonathan Townsend passed away on Sept. 11 after succumbing to a medical emergency while on duty at California State Prison, Corcoran.

Governor Gavin Newsom today issued the following statement regarding the death of California State Prison – Corcoran Correctional Officer Jonathan Townsend:
“May Correctional Officer Jonathan Townsend be remembered for his professionalism and selflessness to carry out his duties to protect the people of California. Jennifer and I offer our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues as they mourn his loss. We are eternally grateful for his years of service to the people of California.”

On September 11, 2025, Officer Townsend succumbed to a medical emergency while on duty at California State Prison – Corcoran (COR).

Officer Townsend, 54, had served in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for 23 years. After graduating from the academy in 2002, he served first at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad and then at COR in 2003. He is survived by his wife and three children.

In honor of Officer Townsend, flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space will continue to be flown at half-staff.

BREAKING: A Utah Valley University student says he contacted the FBI after spotting a male suspect on or near the Losee Center roof twice in the weeks leading up to Charlie Kirk’s shooting. The student noted that the man looked strikingly similar to images of the person of interest, and added that a professor had also confronted the individual on the roof, per Rawalerts.
