Today, State Department employee Michael Charles Schena was sentenced to 48 months in prison for attempting to sell out his country.

He was paid to use a covert communication device to take pictures of CLASSIFIED documents containing national defense information and then send them to individuals he believed worked for the Chinese government. Schena’s actions directly undermined U.S. national security and put Americans at risk. 
 
No amount of money is worth betraying your country, and the FBI will do EVERYTHING in our power to bring traitors like Schena to justice.

I’d like to thank FBI WFO, FBI Richmond, DOJ’s Office of Enforcement Operations, and DOS’ Diplomatic Security Service’s Office of Counterintelligence for their great work safeguarding our country’s most sensitive information.
 
To all the current and past U.S. government clearance holders out there, the threat is REAL. Please remain vigilant against China’s aggressive attempts to target you and report all suspicious contacts to the FBI.

Friday: Update on major hurricane Kiko, severe thunderstorm and flash flood potential.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: One man is dead, and another is injured after a shootout in South Los Angeles. Police said there are dozens of shell casing left at the scene, but it is unclear what led up to the incident.

Wisconsin: A Brillion police officer was hurt and their squad car was totaled after crashing during a pursuit.

Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, a Brillion police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle. The driver continued driving away from the officer, despite the officer driving a marked squad car with emergency lights and sirens activated.

A pursuit ensued and the officer crashed on south Glenview Avenue.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by the department's captain. The officer was treated and released.

The squad was deemed a total loss and the city is working with its insurance provider to get a replacement.

NEW: ICE San Diego arrested Jose Correa, a 52-year-old an illegal alien from Mexico. Correa has prior convictions for battery and two counts of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. He remains in ICE custody pending removal to Mexico.

Indiana: A Portage police officer suffered a leg injury while struggling with a burglary suspect after responding to a residential alarm.

The accused, Kristopher Edmonds, 43, who provided no permanent address, is charged with two counts of attempted burglary, attempted residential entry, invasion of privacy and two counts of resisting law enforcement, including one resulting in bodily harm to an officer, records show.

The officer brought his police dog to the garage and despite threats that the suspect would be bit if he did not surrender, the man, later identified as Edmonds, would not leave the garage, police said.
The officer and dog made their way into the garage and found Edmonds partially hidden in a hole. When Edmonds resisted arrest, the dog was used to help take him into custody, police said.

The officer said he sustained a leg injury during the arrest.
