NEW: Santa Monica Police Chief Ramon Batista has announced his resignation, effective October 4.

Santa Monica’s police chief is believed to have sent out 2 different versions of his resignation letter.  One to the City Manager, where he appears to blame city leadership for his exit… and the other version sent to media where he doesn’t.

ROBBERY SUSPECTS BUSTED: $40,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from a store at the San Francisco Premium Outlets in Livermore, California.

SFPD learned the suspects had made their way into San Francisco and quickly located and arrested them.

The stolen merchandise was recovered, and a loaded firearm was seized.

FINAL UPDATE for 8/26: The deputy injured today during the incident on I-95 is Lt. Rob Burgess, a 29-year member of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office and currently assigned to the Community Policing Division. He was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma, where he is alert and stable.
