California: After burning over 131,000 acres, the Gifford Fire in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties is now 95% contained. The fire has already brought in a BAER team, Burned Area Emergency Response Team, and they started their work today to asses the damage done and begin soil/erosion recovery efforts.

Crews are putting the finishing touches on mop up operations. Here is a view that Salmon River Hotshots had as they worked to complete part of the 36 hour burn that took place at the tail end of major fire activity. Thanks to the crew for sharing!

A ton of work went into this fire from thousands of firefighters. There are still nearly 1,900 personnel on scene, and the fire cost a total of $168M so far.

Michigan: Detroit Police confirmed that at least two officers suffered minor injuries when their patrol vehicle was struck by another motorist on Saturday evening in the area of Gratiot and Lappin. 

A witness, who said she helped pull the officers and the driver of the other vehicle from their cars, said the driver of the truck that struck the officers ran a red light. 

Police said that two people were in the truck. One was hospitalized with minor injuries, and the other refused treatment.

The Pickett Fire continues to burn through parts of Napa County as evacuation orders are expanded for rural communities near Pope Valley.

Mamdani was unable to pick the bar up off the rack and required full assistance on two attempted reps on the bench

The Barron Police Department, Wisconsin sadly announced the unexpected off duty death of Officer Ben Smith.

Officer Smith served with the Barron Police Department since January of 2024, and had prior experience in 2023 with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, 2019-2020 with the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office.As the staff at the Barron Police Department processes the grief of losing Officer Smith, they ask for the patience and understanding from the community, and to respect the privacy of Officer Smith’s family.  Investigation is ongoing.

The New York State Police sadly announced the death of retired Sergeant Frederick W. Scheidt Jr., who passed away on August 13, 2025, at the age of 67.

Sergeant Scheidt's service and sacrifice, particularly following the 9/11 terrorist attack, will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

The Harlan County Sheriff’s Office confirms that deputies came under gunfire while responding to a call near the Closplint Church of God.

Authorities say this is still an active and dangerous scene, and they are urging everyone to avoid the area until further notice.
