Retired Assistant Sheriff Michael Rothans, beloved husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025.

Born on September 19, 1962, in Inglewood, California, to Arnold and Rochelle Rothans, he grew up alongside his brothers Steve and Tim. He graduated from Saint Bernard High School in 1980 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in political science from Loyola Marymount University in 1984.

Just a week before his college graduation, he was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department—beginning a distinguished career dedicated to serving and protecting the citizens of Los Angeles County.

After 32 years of service Mike retired from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2015, closing a chapter of service marked by integrity, dedication, and honor.

Mike is survived by his mother Rochelle (“Shelly”), devoted wife Lisa; his children Amanda (Andrew) and Andrew (Alexis); his brother Steve (Sheryl); his sister-in-law Carolyn, his beloved grandchildren and nieces.

He will be remembered for his passion for travel, his unwavering love for family, his loyalty to his friends, and his lifelong commitment to service.

✅ Use A/C when it’s available — or head to a cool place like a library or community center.
💧 Keep hydrated — drink water even if you’re not thirsty.
🌳 If you’re outdoors, find shade or wear a hat.
👕 Wear loose, lightweight clothing to help your body stay cool.
👵 Don’t forget to check on family, older adults, and neighbors — especially those without A/C.
