Illinois: A Champaign County Sheriff's Deputy was injured in a crash in Urbana early Thursday morning, according to the Champaign County Sheriff's Department.

The department said the two-vehicle crash happened around 4:15 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Florida Ave. and Lincoln Ave. in Urbana.

The department said the deputy was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition. The name of the deputy has not been released.

Prayers for the Yakima Police officer who was shot in the line of duty Saturday night.🙏🏻

Washington State: Fourteen Yakima Police Department officers, detectives and command staff were part of a fatal shooting in downtown Yakima on Saturday night that followed a domestic violence-related homicide earlier the day, a YPD news release said.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off and went south on South Third Street, where YPD Chief Shawn Boyle performed a “PIT maneuver” to stop it at the intersection of South Third and East Chestnut streets.

The driver, Ismael Sanchez Morales, 33, then went toward several YPD vehicles head-on until he was stopped, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Washington State Patrol, which is investigating the case as part of the Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit.

Morales, the affidavit said, refused to get out of the vehicle at first, but climbed out the driver’s window and a YPD police dog was used to detain him. He then put the dog in a chokehold, the affidavit said.

While the dog was restraining Morales, the affidavit said, Leyva-Sanchez fired at officers, who returned fire and killed him.

A YPD officer was taken to Memorial with a non-life-threatening injury to an extremity, police said.
