Media and Democrats try to claim a 35% drop in DC crime 2023-2024 is a trend in DC, when itβs just year over year and itβs more like a one-hit wonder song. DC crime is down only about a third of that, 13.6% and violent crime is down 16.8% since 2019, the year before everything went haywire due to pandemic lockdowns in 2020. Plus there are a lot of problems with the DC data including cooking the books accusations, as we reported last week.
Crime spiked higher in 2020 especially violent crime (particularly homicides) amid mass unemployment from pandemic shutdowns, school closures, defund police, delayed court cases amid court shutdowns, jails reduced populations to stop infections, and routine policing decreased due to infection risks.
Plus the DC Metropolitan Police Dept. has been accusedβparticularly by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP)βof instructing officers and supervisors to downgrade serious offenses, such as aggravated or felony assault, to less-severe charges to make it appear that βviolent crimeβ is decreasing.
MPD Commander Michael Pulliam was placed on administrative leave after accusations surfaced that he altered crime statistics in his district.
And thereβs this: The Daily Caller says DCβs official βviolent crimeβ totals exclude other forms of assault, like aggravated or felony assault not involving weapons.
These omissions can significantly understate crime levels, as FBI data (which include a broader range of assaults) shows a much smaller decline in violent crime.
FBI data indicates only a 10% drop in violent crime for 2024, not the 35% claimed by the city, due to MPDβs narrower assault classification.

Monday evening, August 11th, at around 10:05 pm, Deputy Flores was standing in a parking lot on South Florida Avenue in Lakeland, when she noticed a gold Chevy Corvette pulling out of a parking space while doing a burnout (intentionally spinning the tires to create smoke and obnoxiously loud and unnecessary noise).
Then the Corvette began a controlled skid sideways, resulting in more ridiculous smoke and noise.
The Corvette stopped for a moment, did another burnout, and then began to drive away.
Deputy Flores conducted a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as 46-year old Alexander Malykhin of Lakeland.
Malykhin was belligerent and uncooperative with the deputy.
What motivates a 46-year old man to behave this way? Perhaps it was the Yingling beer he said that he had with his dinner.
Malykhin was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were bloodshot, and his speech was slurred. He was also armed with a handgun in his waistband.
A field sobriety test produced numerous indicators of impairment, and Malykhin was #ArrestedByThePolkCountySheriffsOffice.
At the jail, Malykhin provided two breath samples at 11:23 pm, revealing a breath alcohol content of 0.089 and 0.083 G/210L.
Alexander Malykhin was charged with: DUI, Reckless Driving, Resisting without Violence, and Having a Firearm Readily Accessible While Under the Influence of Alcohol.
