Spokane County Sheriff’s Sergeant Killed in the Line of Duty

It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts that the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office confirms the line-of-duty loss of a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant, a member of our agency and law enforcement family.

On August 9, 2025, at approximately 7:40 am, a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant was tragically killed when he was struck by a motorist while assisting with a large traffic hazard on eastbound I-90 near the Four Lakes exit. 

Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels will provide additional information later this afternoon at the Public Safety Building.

A water system break in two L.A. neighborhoods during a heatwave has been going on for days, and while crews continue to work night and day to fix the problem, faucets are still running dry on Saturday. 

Anti-ICE protesters targeted a Home Depot, blocking entrances and accusing the store of supporting ICE.

NEW: Shortly after winning today’s NASCAR Xfinity series race, Driver Connor Zilisch seemingly fell while getting out of his car and didn’t get up.
