Janet Blocher has retired after 30 years with the Scottsdale Police Department, Arizona. 🎉

She started as a volunteer before getting hired as a Records Specialist in 1995. Janet became a Police Aide in 1996 and worked patrol in the Via Linda District until transferring to the Foothills District in 2005. She was a field trainer for numerous police aide trainees through the years. Janet’s last assignment was working the front desk at the Foothills District from 2018 through her last day on August 4, 2025. Well done Sister.

Holy Shit!!!!! A high-profile law firm representing the city of Los Angeles in a sweeping homelessness case submitted an $1.8-million invoice for two weeks of work in May, according to records reviewed by The Times.

The invoice from Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP comes as the city is already under serious financial pressure, caused in part by rapidly growing legal payouts.

With at least 15 of Gibson Dunn’s lawyers billing at nearly $1,300 per hour, the price tag so far equates to just under $140,000 per day over a 13-day period.

UPDATE: Crews continue making good progress in battle against Canyon Fire.

Luzdelia Caballero reports from Castaic, where she speaks with one homeowner who had flames get dangerously close to his property on Thursday before firefighters were able to step in and deter the massive blaze.

To aid in quick firefighting response, California today secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) to help suppress the Canyon Fire. Additionally, Cal OES is coordinating critical resources for wildfires including the Gifford Fire.

As of 5:30pm, Cal Fire says the Tiger Fire near Buckhorn in Amador County has burned 84 acres and is at 5% containment. More than 800 people are under evacuation orders.

Please, pray for the two Atlanta Transit Police Officers who were shot in the line of duty this afternoon.🙏🏻

Georgia: Two Atlanta transit police officers were shot after they tried to confront a man urinating in a train station, and the suspect was later arrested in another state.

The shooting happened just before midnight at MARTA’s Five Points station, the downtown transfer point for the system’s trains.

Authorities said the man became irate and refused to cooperate when officers approached him.
Officers decided to arrest the man, Kreher said he pulled out a handgun and shot over his shoulder at the officer, authorities said.

He grazed a female officer in the knee and struck a male officer in the arm.

The female officer has been released from the hospital but is also reporting hearing loss because she was so close when the gun was fired. She is expected to fully recover.

The male officer was undergoing surgery Friday for his arm injury.

UPDATE: Montana bar shooting suspect taken into custody week after killing 4.

The former U.S. Army soldier accused of gunning down four people at a Montana bar has been captured following a week-long manhunt, the Granite County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Michael Paul Brown, 45, is suspected of opening fire on Aug. 1 at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, a city of about 9,000 people in southwestern Montana, authorities said.

DEPUTY SERIOUSLY INJURED BY ACCIDENTAL DRUG EXPOSURE

Kentucky: A deputy at the Boyd County Detention Center is fighting for their life after a medical emergency on August 7, 2025.

The incident, which occurred during routine prisoner intake, may have involved exposure to an unknown substance. The deputy suffered severe symptoms, including seizures and respiratory failure, but thanks to quick medical action, they're now stable and intubated in a medically induced coma.
